Kashiwagidaira Station opened on 30 July 1915 as a station on the Iwate Light Railway, a light railway extending 65.4 km from to the now-defunct Sennintōge Station. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.*
