In October 2019, it was announced Julie Cohen and Betsy West would direct the film, with Ron Howard and Alex Prud'homme serving as an executive producer under his Imagine Entertainment banner, with CNN Films producing the film. The film has been produced with the cooperation of Child's friends and family and the Julia Child Foundation.Release
In April 2020, Sony Pictures Classics acquired distribution rights to the film.
