John Hiester
John Hiester was an American military and political leader from the Revolutionary War era to the early 19th Century. He was a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty.Biography
Hiester was born in Goshenhoppen, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on April 9, 1745. After attending school, he entered the lumber business with his father in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married Hannah Pawling and fathered seven children.
During the Revolutionary War, he volunteered for service with the Pennsylvania Militia and was commissioned a captain. He was later promoted to colonel. After the war, he was elected a major general in the Pennsylvania Militia.
In 1806, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in the Tenth Congress from March 4, 1807 to March 3, 1809.
He died in Goshenhoppen, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1821.
