Jeremy Begbie Jeremy Begbie , BA , BD , Ph.D., LRAM , ARCM , FRSCM , is Thomas A. Langford Distinguished Professor at Duke Divinity School , Duke University, where he directs Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts . His primary research interest is the correlation between theology and the arts , in particular the interplay between music and theology . he is also an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Music at the University of Cambridge .Biography Begbie obtained a B.A. in philosophy and music at the University of Edinburgh , and his B.D. and Ph.D. in the University of Aberdeen . Prior to teaching at Duke Divinity School in 2009, he was the Associate Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge , as well as an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge . In addition, he was an Honorary Professor of Theology at the Institute for Theology, Imagination, and the Arts at St. Mary's College, University of St. Andrews, in Scotland , as well as the Associate Director of the program . He is currently Thomas A. Langford Distinguished Professor of Theology at Duke University. He is Senior member of Wolfson College, Cambridge . He is an ordained minister at the Church of England . Being a professional musician, he has performed as a pianist, oboist, and a conductor.Research He is known for his writing and lecturing in theology and the arts, especially music. In September 1997 he founded the Theology Through the Arts project, whose primary aim was "to discover and demonstrate ways in which the arts can contribute towards the renewal of Christian theology". Aspects of the project include conversation among artists and theologians, academic lectures, publications, and arts festivals.
