James Nazroo


James Y. Nazroo, is a British sociologist and Honorary Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester, where he has taught since October 2006. At the University of Manchester, he has been the director of the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research since 2010. Previously, he was a research fellow at Royal Holloway, University of London. He received his BSc in medical sociology from St. George’s Hospital Medical School, his MSc in sociology of health and illness from Royal Holloway, University of London, and his PhD in sociology from University College London. His research interests focus on ethnic inequality and social disadvantage as they pertain to health. He has also researched social engagement among retired people in England. He has been an external research fellow at the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration since 2010.

Honours

In March 2015, Nazroo was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences .
