Insurrection Media is an independent talent-friendly TV studio founded by Kiliaen Van Rensselaer in 2015, Insurrection develops and produces scripted content for over-the-top video platforms as well as broadcast and cable networks internationally.
Insurrection has a strategic relationship with HarperCollins where key books in SciFi, Drama and Comedy are optioned and developed into digital video and linear television series, as well as a multi-year SciFi production partnership with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and David Alpert of Skybound Entertainment.

Series Productions

On Aug. 6th, 2019, Netflix announced the production of Insurrection's drama series Tiny Pretty Things. Season One of the ten-episode, hour-long series is being shot in Toronto, Canada. Based on the HarperCollins book by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Claytona, the YA drama charts the rise and fall of young adults at an elite ballet academy, each standing on the verge of greatness or ruin. Tiny Pretty Things was developed and produced by Insurrection Media, building upon its strategic relationship with HarperCollins. The series is written and show-run by Michael MacLennan, directed by Gary Fleder, and stars Kylie Jefferson, Casimere Jollette, Daniela Norman, Brennan Clost, Michael Hsu Rosen, and Lauren Holly.
In 2017, gestating from the strategic relationship with HarperCollins, Insurrection Media developed and produced The Dead Girls Detective Agency, a paranormal YA drama based on the novel written by Suzy Cox and adapted by Jerica Lieberman and Molly Margraf. The show is a Snap Original through Indigo, a studio formed by a joint venture between Snapchat and NBCUniversal. The Dead Girls Detective Agency holds the record as the highest performing scripted show on Snapchat with the lowest episodic audience decay rate. The Dead Girls Detective Agency was referenced by the Snap executive leadership during the February 5th earnings call in 2019 as evidence that their original content strategy is a success. Insurrection is currently in production on season two which will premiere in Winter of 2019.
Building on its partnership with Snap, Insurrection Media is currently in production on its scripted show Denton’s Death Date, a Dark Comedy based on the novel Denton Little’s Deathdate by Lance Rubin, set in a world where everyone knows the exact day they are going to die. The plot of the show centers on Denton Little, a high school junior whose death date is only a week away. Denton finally starts living his life to the fullest when a series of strange events unfold that may be the key to avoiding his fate.
Insurrection Media premiered its scripted podcast series Exeter on AMC's Sundance Now in 2018. Created, directed and written by Ronnie Gunter the drama-noir series features talented performances by Jeanne Tripplehorn and Oscar-winner Ray McKinnon as diametrically opposed but dramatically entangled lead characters. Due to its success, AMC ordered a second season of Exeter that premiered in 2019. Both seasons of the series, consisting of 12 thirty minute long episodes, were co-written by Ronnie Gunter and George Ducker.
In 2018, Insurrection Media produced the scripted comedy series Liberty Crossing in collaboration with Complex Networks. Created and executive produced by six-time Emmy winner Daniel Radosh & Michael Harrison, the original comedy follows a hapless young intelligence analyst at the National Counterterrorism Center who must untangle a terror plot while navigating the office's petty backstabbing and bureaucracy—all the while tolerating his meddling family. Starring Calum Worthy, Reginald VelJohnson, Pete Ploszek, Shelley Hennig, Ashley Argota, James Urbaniak, Matt Besser, and Adam Faison. Guest stars include Beth Littleford and Sara Paxton. The cast was assembled by Seth Yanklewitz, Emmy-nominated casting director for ', ' and . The show was executive produced by Oscar-nominated Mason Novick, Michelle Knudsen, Emmy-nominated Deborah Henderson and directed by Todd Berger.
