Institut de veille sanitaire
The Institut de veille sanitaire was a French public establishment of the Health minister. It was merged in 2016 with other health agencies into the Agence nationale de santé publique
Its mission was to survey the health of the population and, if required, to alert the administration, health specialists and the whole of the population. This surveillance role was shared with other public organisations such as the Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé and the ''Agence française de sécurité sanitaire de l'alimentation, de l'environnement et du travail.
The Institut de veille sanitaire was criticized by the press for its lack of response during the European heat wave of 2003 but was cleared by several official commissions.
