Ike Nienhuis


Ike Nienhuis also written as Ilktje Nienhuis was a Dutch speed skater, specialized in kortebaanschaatsen.
Nienhuis was born in Makkinga. She became at three consecutive years Dutch national champion kortebaanschaatsen in 1946, 1947 and 1948; and also Frisian champion in the same years. In total she won 12 championships in twenty years she was active, between 1937 and 1957.
In 1999 she was nominated to become “speed skater of the century” next to Martha Wieringa, Klasina Seinstra, Tonny de Jong and the winner of the title, Atje Keulen-Deelstra.
Makkinga died in Assen on 28 January 2001.
