The Hyundai Creta, also known as Hyundai ix25, is a subcompact crossover produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2014. Initially intended for the Indian market, the Creta was launched subsequently in China and Russia. It is manufactured by Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai India, Hyundai Brazil, Hyundai Rus and Algeria's TMC, but not marketed in Europe. It was first seen as a thinly veiled "concept" at Auto China in April 2014. The production model had its premier at Chengdu, in August 2014, and it went on sale in China two months later.
First generation (GS; 2014)
History
The ix25 is based on the Hyundai–Kia platform that underpins the Kia Soul, Hyundai i30, Hyundai Elantra and Kia Cee'd, and is similar to the Kia KX3. In India, where it went on sale on 21 July 2015, was badged "Hyundai Creta" after Crete. The name is also intended to suggest connections with "creative". The Creta/ix25 is intended to become a global model. In the Dominican Republic, it is badged "Hyundai Cantus" because in said country the word "creta" is used to describe the labia minora.
Engine
The Creta's engine comes in three variants, each of which are present in different models.
The 1.4 CRDi engine is available in E+ and S models.
The 1.6 CRDi VGT engine is available in SX and SX models.
The 1.6 gasoline dual VTVT engine is available in the E, E+, SX and SX models.
The Chinese and Brazilian market gets two gasoline engines, of 1.6 or 2.0 liters. In India, the car is available with 1.4 and 1.6 liter diesel engines and a 1.6 liter gasoline engine. Also in Brazil, both engines runs with ethanol. In order to improve the Creta lineup further, Hyundai has introduced Creta E+ diesel and SX dual tone variants. The Creta SX, it is now offered with a dual tone red and black or a white and black exterior color options. The SX dual tone variant is powered by a 1.6 liter gasoline or a diesel engine but, with no automatic gearbox option.
Safety
The Creta has safety features, including Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control, Hillstart Assist Control, Rear Parking Assist System, and ABS. The Hive body structure signifies structural strength. The six airbag system provides all round protection. One for the driver, one for the front seat passenger, front and rear curtain airbags running the length of the cabin, plus front side airbags.
Design
The Creta is based on the company's new concept, the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. The Fluidic concept was also used for the design of other recent Hyundai cars, such as the Fluidic Verna and the Elantra.
Other features
The rear parking assist system allows for safe parking in tight spaces. The car is also equipped with day/night inside rear view mirror for efficient night time driving. The audio system is high tech and comes with 1 GB internal memory. Touch Screen Audio Video Navigation System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also present. Keyless entry and follow me home headlamps add to the existing set of features. Also available is the fully automatictemperature control, with a mood change bar.
Reception
By 30 November 2015, the vehicle has registered over 70,000 bookings in India and 15,770 worldwide. It has sold more than 200,000 cars in India.
The second generation Hyundai ix25 was revealed during the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019 and went on sale in August. Hyundai had unveiled the second generation Creta in India at the Auto Expo 2020. The Indian-made Creta is a slightly modified version of on the Hyundai ix25 sold in China. The main visual difference at the exterior is the design of the radiator grille. While the Chinese ix25 gets mesh-type treatment for the grille, the India-spec Creta gets chromed treatment with vertical and horizontal slats forming rectangular blocks. The interior of the Creta largely differ with the ix25 as the Chinese-spec model comes with a vertical touchscreen infotainment system that flows into the central console, while the Creta opts for a more conventional design. The Creta for the Indian market is offered with three engine options, 1.5-litre petrol producing 113 hp and develops 144 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 113 hp and 250 Nm of torque as well as 1.4 turbocharged petrol 138 hp and develop 242 Nm of torque engine.
