surveyed
by the
Royal
Navy officer
and
Arctic explorer
Lieutenant
Henry Parkyns Hoppner
during
William Edward
Parry's Second
Arctic Expedition
of 1821–1823, and named by
Parry
in
honor
of Hoppner.
