Harry Nutter
Henry Nutter was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was born and raised in Nelson, Lancashire and made two appearances in The Football League for his hometown club in the 1923–24 season. Aside from football, he was also a keen athlete, and worked in several textile mills in the East Lancashire area.
Nutter played amateur football with Barnoldswick Town before joining Nelson in February 1924. He was originally planned only to have a trial for the reserve team at Nelson, but due to an injury to regular goalkeeper, Harry Abbott, Nutter was selected for the Football League Second Division fixture away at South Shields on 9 February 1924. Nelson were beaten 0–3, the final goal scored from a penalty kick following a foul by Nutter. He made his second appearance for the club the following week, but the match again ended in defeat as Bury recorded a 5–0 victory.
Nutter was subsequently released from Nelson, and gave up football to become a policeman with the Lancashire Constabulary, spending a year on the force. On 5 November 1926, he emigrated to Australia on the SS Demosthenes and later lived in Kew, Victoria. It is believed that Nutter died in Victoria in 1983.
