Gerber is a census-designated place in Tehama County, California. Gerber sits at an elevation of. The 2010 United States census reported Gerber's population was 1,060.

History

Gerber was platted in 1910, and named after the Gerber family, original owners of the town site. A post office has been in operation at Gerber since 1916. Passenger rail service to Gerber station ended in 1972 when the Amtrak Coast Starlight started bypassing the town.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 0.9 square miles, all of it land.

Demographics

The 2010 United States Census reported that Gerber had a population of 1,060. The population density was 1,148.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of Gerber was 575 White, 6 African American, 55 Native American, 8 Asian, 0 Pacific Islander, 371 from other races, and 45 from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 526 persons.
The Census reported that 1,060 people lived in households, 0 lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 were institutionalized.
There were 367 households, out of which 149 had children under the age of 18 living in them, 180 were opposite-sex married couples living together, 50 had a female householder with no husband present, 31 had a male householder with no wife present. There were 35 unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 3 same-sex married couples or partnerships. 81 households were made up of individuals, and 27 had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.89. There were 261 families ; the average family size was 3.41.
