George J. Smith
George Joseph Smith was a U.S. Representative from New York.
Born in Kingston, New York, Smith attended the public schools.
He engaged in banking and the manufacturing business in New York City and Kingston.
He served as chairman of the Republican county committee in 1898.
Treasurer of the Republican State committee in 1899.
He served as delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1909.
Smith was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth Congress.
He declined to be a candidate for reelection.
He engaged in the real estate and wholesale grocery business in New York City.
He died in Atlantic City, New Jersey, December 24, 1913. He was interred in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston, New York.
His Kingston home, the George J. Smith House, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
