Gacharic Spin is an all-female Japanese rock band formed in 2009. Currently composed of five instrumentalists and one performer, almost all the members have performed lead vocals, although Hana and Oreo Reona are the main singers. Gacharic Spin has performed overseas at Anime Matsuri in Texas and Japan Expo in France, as well a concerts in South Korea and at Tekko in Pittsburgh. Together with vocalist Fuki from Light Bringer, four of the instrumentalists from Gacharic Spin are also in the band Doll$Boxx which formed in 2012. The band also has an alter ego band called Metallic Spin which covers classic heavy metal songs with Saber Tiger vocalist Takenori Shimoyama.
Career
Gacharic Spin was formed in 2009 by former high school classmates bassist F Chopper Koga and drummer Hana. Koga was previously in a band called The Pink Panda but was unhappy, to the point of wanting to quit music. Friends persuaded her to start her own band, and she decided she would but only if her best friend Hana agreed to join her. After open auditions, they recruited vocalist Armmy and guitarist Eita and opened their website on June 10. However, Eita left after a November 28, 2009, concert and was replaced by former Eu Phoria member Tomo-zo. Less than a year after forming, Gacharic Spin made their national television debut in July 2010 performing "Lock On!!" on NHK General TV's Music Japan. The members also served as backing band to Nanase Aikawa as motion capture models for the 2011 video game , and coached members of AKB48 for their 2012 music video "Give Me Five!". Armmy left the band on March 14, 2012 due to an undisclosed illness and was idle for almost two years before resurfacing in 2014 with a new band, TakaEita, which she formed with Eita. During that early 2012 tour, keyboardist Oreo Reona was added as a support member. She had previously been a member of Eu-Phoria with Tomo-zo. Reona would become a permanent member providing keyboards and vocals just ten days later. Although the band began to look for a new vocalist, they had a French tour confirmed and were not satisfied with the women who auditioned, and since Hana and Reona had previously been singers, they decided to share the job. In 2013, Gacharic Spin recruited dancers Mai and Arisa into the band. Since their main vocalists were stuck behind a drum kit and keyboards, they decided they wanted someone who was able to move freely and stir up the audience. Mai was initially added alone but Arisa quickly followed. Gacharic Spin signed to major label Victor Entertainment in 2014, releasing the compilation album Gachatto Best 2010–2014. In 2015, they played at the J-Pop Summit in San Francisco. Their 2015 single "Don't Let Me Down" was used as the final ending theme song of Dragon Ball Kai. Performer Arisa decided to leave the band in July 2015 because she was entering her senior year of high school and wanted to focus on her studies. Mai's sixteen-year-old high school classmate and fan of the band, Nenne, was recruited in her place. Ashitomi passed away on October 15, 2015. No cause of death was disclosed. Koga mentioned her passing on her blog, expressing regret that issues between Ashitomi and the band were never settled. In September 2016, the band released their second major-label album Kakujitsu Hendo. In August 2017, Nenne announced that she had to leave the band due to hearing damage and the chance she could lose her hearing if she continued to be exposed to loud noise like a concert. In September 2018, the band announced the release of a new EP entitled Go Luck! but at the same time revealed that Mai was to "graduate" from the band after six years. The Go Luck! EP was released in November 2018 with six different versions; one for each member – including Mai – as well as a group version. In February 2019, the band announced a new greatest hits compilation would be released in March, and that a new member, Angelina 1/3, had joined as "microphone performer." In March, former Lagoon drummer yuri joined the band. With her taking over drum duties, Hana switched to guitar and vocals. They returned to Anime Matsuri in Houston, Texas, for a performance in June 2019.
