Fåberg


Fåberg is a village and former municipality in Innlandet county, Norway.
The parish of Faaberg was established as a municipality January 1, 1838. On January 1, 1964 Fåberg was incorporated into the neighboring municipality Lillehammer. Prior to the merger Fåberg had 13,381 inhabitants.
The Fåberg district contains the villages of Fåberg and Jørstadmoen. Combined, they form an urban area with a population of 1,342.

The name

The municipality was named after the old farm Fåberg because the first church was built there. The meaning of the first element is unknown; the last element is berg 'mountain'.
Until 1921 the name was written "Faaberg".
