Eric Haase


Eric Michael Haase is an American professional baseball catcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. He made his MLB debut in 2018 for the Cleveland Indians.

Career

Cleveland Indians

Haase attended Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Michigan. The Cleveland Indians selected him in the seventh round of the 2011 MLB draft. He signed with the Indians, rather than enroll at Ohio State University, receiving a $580,000 signing bonus.
He made his professional debut in 2011 with the AZL Indians, hitting.300/.364/.300/.664 with 2 RBI. He split the 2012 season between the AZL Indians and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, combining to hit.263/.298/.474/.772 with 3 home runs and 22 RBI. He spent the 2013 season with the Lake County Captains, hitting.250/.322/.439/.761 with 14 home runs and 47 RBI. He split the 2014 season between Lake County and the Carolina Mudcats, hitting a combined.255/.322/.474/.796 with 17 home runs and 48 RBI. He spent 2015 with the Lynchburg Hillcats, hitting.247/.341/.456/.797 with 9 home runs and 55 RBI. He spent the 2016 season with the Akron RubberDucks, hitting.208/.265/.438/.703 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI. He split the 2017 season between Akron and the Columbus Clippers, combining to hit.260/.352/.578/.930 with 27 home runs and 61 RBI.
After the 2017 season, the Indians added Haase to their 40-man roster.
He spent the 2018 minor league season with Columbus, hitting.236/.288/.443/.731 with 20 home runs and 71 RBI. The Indians promoted Haase to the major leagues for the first time on September 1, 2018. He made his major league debut the next day. He hit.125 in 16 major league at bats.
He opened the 2019 season back with Columbus. Haase appeared in 10 MLB games for the 2019 Indians, hitting just.063. He hit his first major league home run on September 28, 2019. He was designated for assignment on December 29, 2019.

Detroit Tigers

On January 8, 2020, Haase was traded to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations.

Haase and his wife, Maria, had a son in May 2014.
