E-girls and e-boys

E-girls and e-boys are a youth subculture that emerged in the late 2010s and is almost exclusively seen on social media. The look is inspired by skater culture, 1990s–2000s fashion, anime, K-pop, hip hop, goth, and rave.
Their alternative fashion choices commonly consist of baggy, thrifted clothes, hair colored in shades of green or pink, unkempt nail polish, and decorative chains. E-girls wear mesh shirts and winged eye liner, while e-boys wear black clothes layered over long sleeve striped shirts and curtained hair. Both boys and girls may wear heavy makeup, in particular pink blush on the cheeks and nose, imitating anime or Lolita fashion. Fake freckles are common. Small shapes are often drawn under the eyes, usually heart shapes. YouTuber Jenna Marbles made a video imitating an e-girl's makeup style, calling it a mix between "Harajuku, emo, and igari makeup", the latter of which is a Japanese makeup style imitative of a hangover. Musical artists such as Billie Eilish and Lil Peep have influenced the subculture.
Videos by e-girls and e-boys tend to be flirty and, at times, overtly sexual. Eye-rolls and protruding tongues are common.
