He has written, edited or contributed to several other books, and in 2004 he wrote the online guide "How to Vote Catholic". Hudson has written as well for the Los Angeles Times and for Slate. as well as the Wall Street Journal and the Spectator.
Hudson first taught philosophy at Mercer University Atlanta and at Fordham University. In 1995 he became publisher of the conservative Roman Catholic magazine, Crisis. He also served as director of Catholic Outreach for George W. Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns.
In August, 2004, it came to light that, in 1994, as a Fordham University philosophy professor Hudson had been accused of conducting a sexual relationship with one of his students, an 18-year-old freshman. Hudson, at the time, admitted his guilt and resigned from his tenured position at the Jesuit school, derailing a promising academic career. In 1996 he paid a $30,000 settlement to terminate the lawsuit which had resulted from the case.
Among Hudson's activities outside politics is his sponsorship of an annual poetry luncheon at the beginning of Advent each Christmas season.
Hudson is credited with creating an outreach to Catholic voters in the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump.
On February 6, 2017, Hudson published his first column, "Religion Watch," as a regular contributor to Newsmax.
