. It is named after the
small town
of Crivitz in
western
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
. The
crater
is located within the larger crater
Gusev
.
The name was
proposed
by
Stephan
Gehrke
in
2002
, at the time a
research associate
of the
TU Berlin
working
on cartographic
software
and a
visiting researcher
at the
United States Geological Survey
.
