County Hall, Durham
County Hall is a municipal building at Aykley Heads in Durham, County Durham.History
Originally Durham County Council was based at the Shire Hall in Durham. When this became too small for the County Council's requirements, a new building, which was designed by Sir Basil Spence, was built at a cost of £2.75 million and officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in October 1963. The County Council is scheduled to move to a smaller facility on the Sands car park at Freeman's Place in the centre of Durham in late 2021. The County Council also intends to move the county archives to a new history centre at Mount Oswald.
