Coast Guard Base Gloucester


Coast Guard Base Gloucester is the correct name for the now decommissioned base was.
The base was formed 1898 and the base was closed in 1988, the Coast Guard moved across the Delaware to Penn's Landing.
The base had 2 tug boats, one of which was the Coast Guard Cutter CLEAT and Coast Guard Cutter Catenary 1 41 foot UTB, 1 Oil Skimmer,45 foot buoy tender. The site also had the main building that housed Administration, berthing for some of the crew, galley,officers quarters, PX. There was a boat house, fire house, ANT unit and stand alone crane for the small boats and buoys. All on 10 acres of land/pier.
The base also had 1 Buoy Tender 157 foot the Red Oak. The ship was commissioned on 17 December 1971 and was assigned to Gloucester City, New Jersey and was placed under the operational control of the Third Coast Guard District.
