Chiriqui quail-dove


The Chiriquí quail-dove or rufous-breasted quail-dove is a species of bird in the family Columbidae, native to the Talamancan montane forests.

Description

The Chiriquí quail-dove measures long. Identifying marks are its grey crown and nape, rufous breast, and black moustachial stripe. The upperparts are maroon to rufous. The eye is red. Legs and feet are reddish. The similar and sympatric buff-fronted quail-dove is distinguished by its greyish breast, green nape patch and buffy forehead.

Habits

The Chiriquí quail-dove inhabits mid-elevation forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. Like most quail-doves, it is a shy bird and is more often heard than seen.
The call is a loud whoooo-ooooh.
