He won individual silver medal at Stockholm 1937, and two team silver medals. In 1950, Guimard played at 2nd board against Henry Grob in a match Argentina–Switzerland in Zurich. In March 1954, he played at 8th board against Isaac Boleslavsky in a match Argentina–Soviet Union in Buenos Aires. Guimard was awarded the International Master title in 1950, and the Grandmaster title in 1960. The opening 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nc6 is named for him, the Guimard Variation of the French Defense.
