Black metaltail

The black metaltail is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae.
It is endemic to Peru and possibly stretches to northern Chile and Bolivia.
Within the latter two countries it is possible that there may be speciation or separate subspecies but more research is required. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. Its song has been reported to be a repeating "tsee" noise. Like most hummingbirds it hovers in flight for most of its nectar feeding, and will also hunt arthropods. Eggs are usually laid between July and January.
It has recently been threatened by deforestation and degradation of grasslands.
