Black inca
The black inca is a species of hummingbird found only in Colombia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and urban areas. It is threatened by habitat loss.
They hunt arthropods and forage nectar from red and yellow flowers via traplining such as Fuchsia, Bomarea, Aetanthus, Aphelandra, Palicourea, Psammisia, and Thibaudia. It gave its greatest preference however to Abutilon sp. and Bomarea caldasii - species not native to the area.
It is a generally quiet species with occasional short 'ick's or 'pip's.'
It was formerly classified as an endangered species by the IUCN, but new research has shown it to be not as rare as it was believed. Consequently, it was downlisted to Vulnerable in 2008. It remains endangered nationally in Columbia however, due to a 90% habitat loss.'
