Ben Earl


Ben Earl is an England international rugby union player for Bristol Bears in Premiership Rugby on loan from Saracens in the RFU Championship. Earl plays in the back-row.
He gained his first England cap during the 2020 Guinness Six Nations, Calcutta Cup, match between Scotland and England at Murrayfield on February 8, 2020 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Education

At school level Earl played much more cricket than rugby; he was an all-rounder and played for Kent until he was 15. He also was a serious competitive swimmer until he was 13. He has said he was overweight until age 17.
Earl attended The New Beacon and Tonbridge School. He studies comparative literature at Queen Mary University.

Playing career

Earl started his playing career at Sevenoaks Rugby and came through the Saracens academy, and played for England at under-16, under-18 and under-20 level.
He has said he prefers the freedom of playing flanker, but also plays Number 8.
In May 2018 Earl was selected in England's 34 man squad for their tour to South Africa. In January 2019, Earl was included as part of the 35-man England squad for the 2019 Six Nations. He was called up again for the 2020 Six Nations Championship.
He agreed a new contract with Saracens in 2020 which would see him spend one season on loan to Bristol Bears along with teammate Max Malins.
