Ataur Rahman


Ataur Rahman is a Bangladeshi stage and television actor. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to drama.

Early life and education

Rahman was born in Noakhali on 18 June 1941. Early life was spent in Maternal Grand Father's House in the district of Noakhali in the British India. School education and Matriculation was completed from Chittagong Collegiate School. Intermediate Science was completed from Chittagong College, Chittagong. Completed Master in Science in 1964 from Dhaka University.

Career

Rahman served as the general secretary and later president of Bangladesh Centre of the International Theatre Institute. He is the founder general secretary of the theater troupe "Nagorik Natya Sampradaya". He is a former chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation.
Rahman directed over 35 plays including "Roktokorobi", "Banglar Mati Banglar Jol", "Narigon", "Irsha", "Opekkhoman", and "Waiting for Godot".
