Anne Evelyn Clark


Annie "Ann" Evelyn Clark was an Australian sportswoman, a coach and netball umpire and administrator. After breaking her ankle in her first season of women’s basketball, she decided to concentrate on umpiring and coaching.
She was born to Victorian parents, George Cornelius Clarke and Martha Doige, the third of five and attended Redfern Public School. In 1929, she was a founding member of the New South Wales Women's Basketball Association. She held a range of executive positions on the board of the New South Wales Women's Basketball Association and with the All Australia Netball Association. She was president of the New South Wales Women's Basketball Association for 29 years. Clark was five times concurrently national president of the All Australia Women’s Basket Ball Association.

British Empire Medal

She received an All Australian Service Award in 1964. She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1975. In 1976, the Anne Clark Service Award was introduced in her honour. In 1983, the NSW State Netball Centre was renamed the Anne Clarke Centre in her honour.
