Andromache, Queensland


Andromache is a locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In, Andromache had a population of 51 people.

History

Named after the Andromche River which first appears on a survey map of a route for a telegraph line from Bowen to Mackay drawn in late 1864 by surveyor and entrepreneur T.H. Fitzgerald. It is possible he gave the name. Andromache was the wife of legendary Greek hero, Hector. Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources 28 January 2000. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on the 23 July 2010 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
