Andrew Haben


Andrew Haben was an American politician and businessman.
Born in Rhine Province, Prussia, Haben emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1837 and settled in Dansville, New York. In 1855, Haben moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin and worked in the clothing business. In 1872, Haben served on the board of education; in 1876, 1877, and 1885, Haben served as mayor of Oshkosh. In 1889, Haben served on the Oshkosh Common Council. In 1879 and 1880, Haben served in the Wisconsin State Senate as a Democrat. Then in 1882 and 1885, Haben served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Haben also ran for Wisconsin State Treasurer and for Congress and lost the elections. In 1890, Haben retired from business and politics and moved with his family to Denver, Colorado. Then, in 1899, Haben moved back to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Haben died of a heart attack at his home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
