American Exchange Bank
The American Exchange Bank is located in Madison, Wisconsin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The bank was also designated a landmark by the Madison Landmarks Commission in 1975.History
The American Exchange Bank has been a Madison institution since 1871. It was originally called the Park Savings Bank and located in a different building. It was renamed the American Exchange Bank during World War I and moved to its current location in 1922.
This Italian Renaissance Revival style structure, a distinguished example of its type, was designed by architect Stephen Vaughn Shipman. Built of Madison sandstone, the edifice occupies the former site of the American House, where the territorial legislative session met on Nov. 26, 1838.
