Overriding differences in pronunciation and grammar, the orthography differences with the classical Milanese orthography are:
- sound is written ü, not u
- sound is written u, not o
- sound is written ö, not oeu
- long vowels are always written as double
- there is a different use of accents
- zz is often used
- article i is written j when followed by vowel
Lecchese
The most used alternative orthography in Lecco and suburbs is:
- sound is written ü, not u
- sound is written u, not o
- sound is written ö, not oeu
- long vowels are written with the circumflex accent
- the other accents, on tonic syllables, are always used
- final voiced consonants are written as voiceless, except ambiguities
