Alex MacGillivray
Alex MacGillivray works at CDC Group plc as director of development impact. He used to be a managing director at the non-profit research institute AccountAbility. He previously served as deputy director of the New Economics Foundation. MacGillivray has worked for a range of governments, companies and non-profit organizations, and with United Nations agencies. He was part of the team that created the Living Planet Index for the Worldwide Fund for Nature. MacGillivray was also lead author of the research report, Low Flying Heroes, whose title stems from the notion that social entrepreneurs and community activists operate mostly under the official radar that monitors community development.
He is the author of A Brief History of Globalization, a popular account of global trends in which he discusses the concepts of Global Intent and globalization. MacGillivray has twenty years experience working on corporate responsibility and sustainable development. Since 2006 he has lectured MSc students at Imperial College's Centre for Environmental Policy where he studied for his own masters in 1990.
