Alain-Emile Baptiste Planet
Alain Planet, born on November 18, 1948 in Privas in Ardèche, is the current bishop of the diocese of Carcassonne and Narbonne where he has served since 2004.Early life
After studying law and literature at the University of Grenoble, Alain Planet holds a degree and a CAFEP in modern letters. He was professor of letters, at the establishment of the Marists of Bourg-de-Péage, then director of the Lycée Saint-Maurice de Romans. He then entered the Saint-Irénée seminary in Lyon and studied at the Faculty of Theology in Lyon where he obtained a Master's degree in theology.Career
He was ordained priest on May 24, 1981 for the diocese of Valence. After being for seven years episcopal delegate in charge of the chaplaincy of public education in Valence, he was responsible for the pastoral care of vocations and the pastoral and sacramental liturgy of the diocese, while having a parish ministry in Valence. In 1999, he became episcopal delegate for the permanent diaconate.
Appointed bishop of the diocese of Carcassonne on June 24, 2004, he was consecrated on September 19 of the same year.
He is a member of the Permanent Council of the Conference of Bishops of France. In particular, he deals with the question of traditionalist Catholics. He succeeds Bishop Guy Thomazeau as chaplain general of the French associations of the Order of Malta.
