Akhtar Hossain Choudhury Memorial Degree College


Akhtar Hossain Choudhury Memorial Degree College is a degree college situated in Mirzaganj Upazila, Patuakhali District, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002 by Air Vice Marshal Altaf Hossain Choudhury, former Home Minister and Begum Suraiya Akhtar Choudhury, in memoriam to his deceased son Akhtar Hossain. The college provides education in Bengali under the national curriculum. The college has 2,000 students, 35 teachers, and 25 other staff. Gazi Bazlur Rhaman is the college principal.

Campus

AHCMC is located in a suburban area, North frontier of Mirzagonj Upazila where Bakergonj Upazila bordar intersects. Dhaka-Barguna highway road runs along its front boundary wall. All buildings of the college are facing to the West creating a north-south long row standing side by side. The buildings straight line long corridors must give mind-blowing feeling of uncompromising distance sensation. One can consider it's surrounding's beauty with that of the Taj Mahal. Behind the academic buildings, A splendid lake along with a bridge over it, catches eyes of everyone. It covers almost one-third of the campus. Both besides of the lake and main courtyard of college are decorated with various flowers and fruit-trees which extraordinarily illuminate excellent view of the campus. Separate boys' and girls' hostels have healthy dining options.

Education

The education system of the college is supportive. Teachers are available to address students' needs, and the school offers teacher's dormitories. The college provides higher secondary and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Students can elect one of three major groups: science, humanities, and business studies, while computer science, agriculture and home economics are optional for higher secondary students. This college is very popular for business studies group students.

Library

The college has an extensive library containing over 5000 volumes.

Uniform

All students wear uniforms. Boys wear sky-blue shirts and black pants. In winter, they wear sky-blue jackets. Girls wear a black salwar, black scarf, sky-blue kameez and a sky-blue belt. Girls also put on sky-blue jackets in the winter.

Co-curricular and extra curricular activities

Clubs offer co-curriculum activities, such as the sports club, art club and social welfare club. AHCMC provides an internet-connected computer lab. A college magazine is published. Every year students of this college participate in the 'Inter-Division Debate Competition' winning the championship several times. The college organizes an annual function on 21 February to observe International Mother Language Day. It holds programs on the occasions of Pohela Boishakh, Victory Day and Independence Day.
