Agricultural Academy


The Agricultural Academy is a scientific university based in Sofia, Bulgaria. It offers education in scientific research, agriculture, animal husbandry, and food industry.

History

In 1961, a Bulgarian equivalent of VASKhNIL in Moscow was created under the name Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Sofia. It was closed in 1971, with its members and scientists moving to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
In 1972, the university was established under the name Georgi Dimitrov Agricultural Academy. It united scientific and all higher education institutions in the country, preparing specialists in the mentioned fields of science. It closed in 1975.
In 1982, the Agricultural Academy was established again by the State Council. By 1999, the Academy was renamed the National Center for Agrarian Sciences, then was renamed to its former name Agricultural Academy in 2008.
In the summer of 2018, a new set of rules were adopted, which introduced important changes to its structure. Since 1 August 2018, the academic titles of Academician and Corresponding Member were introduced.
