Adolphe Regnier


Adolphe or Jacques-Auguste-Adolphe Regnier was a French philologist. He is most notable as a professor at the collège de France and for his numerous translations of the poems and plays of the German author Friedrich Schiller.
He was also preceptor to Prince Philippe, Count of Paris, a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and director of the "Collection des grands écrivains de la France". In 1873 he was appointed librarian of the Palace of Fontainebleau, where he died eleven years later. His son Adolphe Regnier was also a librarian and scholar.
