Achilleus (Roman usurper)
Aurelius Achilleus assumed the title of Roman emperor under Diocletian and reigned over Egypt after a revolt in 297 AD.
It is uncertain whether the revolt was led by Achilleus or Domitius Domitianus; while papyrological evidence indicates that the leader was Domitianus, there is literary evidence attributing the revolt to Achilleus. Achilleus was possibly the Corrector of Domitianus, and seems to have succeeded to leadership after the latter died in December 297.
Achilleus was at length taken by Diocletian after a siege of eight months in Alexandria, and put to death in 298 AD.
