intercellular connections

desmosomes
, resulting in
loss
of
cohesion
between
keratinocytes
, seen in
diseases
such as
pemphigus vulgaris
. It is
absent
in
bullous pemphigoid
, making it
useful
for
differential diagnosis
.
This
histological
feature
is also seen in
herpes simplex infections
and
varicella zoster infections
.
