Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry


Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013. He had been a member of the National Assembly from 1988 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 1999.

Political career

He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA-146 as Islami Jamhoori Ittehad in 1988 Pakistani general election. He received 58,765 votes and defeated Muhammad Afzal Sindhu. In the same election, he ran for the seat of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of IJI from Constituency PP-229 but was unsuccessful. He received 27,983 votes and lost the seat to Ali Akbar Mazhar Wains, a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party.
He was re-elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-146 as in 1990 Pakistani general election. He received 74,872 votes and defeated Ali Akbar Mazhar Wains, a candidate of Pakistan Democratic Alliance. In the same election, he was elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of IJI from Constituency PP-229. He received 38,866 votes and defeated Chaudhry Munir Ahmad, a candidate of PDA. In September 1991, he was inducted into the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and was appointed as Federal Minister for Law and Justice where he continued to serve until July 1993.
He ran for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-146 as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League in 1993 Pakistani general election but was unsuccessful. He received 59,062 votes and Ali Akbar Mazhar Wains, a candidate of PPP. In the same election, he ran for the seat of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency PP-229 but was unsuccessful. He received 26,067 votes and lost the seat to Muhammad Afzal Sindhu, a candidate of PPP.
He was re-elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-146 as a candidate of PML-N in 1997 Pakistani general election. He received 72,181 votes and defeated Ali Akbar Mazhar Wains, a candidate of PPP.
He ran for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-191 as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League in 2002 Pakistani general election but was unsuccessful. He received 43,739 votes and lost the seat to Ijaz-ul-Haq.
He was elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-190 as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party in 2008 Pakistani general election. He received 77,664 votes and defeated Tahir Bashir Cheema.
