2009 Australian Open – Men's Singles


defeated Roger Federer in the final, 7–5, 3–6, 7–6, 3–6, 6–2, to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 2009 Australian Open. Nadal became the first and last Spanish singles player to win the tournament.
Novak Djokovic was the defending champion, but retired due to heat stress trailing two sets to one in the quarterfinals against Andy Roddick.
The 2009 men's tournament is considered to be one of the best Grand Slam tournaments in open era history. It is remembered for containing many of the best matches of the 2009 year, including the Nadal versus Verdasco semi final, and the final itself. It is noteworthy for being the first hard court Grand Slam in which Nadal made the final or won.
