Çubuklu
Çubuklu is a neighborhood in Beykoz ilçe of İstanbul Province, Turkey. Çubuklu is on the Anatolian side of Bosphorus. The place was called Katangion in ancient imes.
Çubuklu was a recreational area during the Byzantine era. During the Ottoman era, some Ottoman sultans such as Selim I, Suleiman the Magnificent, Ahmed I and Ahmed III showed special interest in Çubuklu. The grand vizier Nevşehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasha and some other high officials in the 19th century contributed to the development of the place. With fine mansions, Çubuklu was one of the popular residence areas in the capital of the empire. Grand vizier Halil Rifat Pasha built five yalıs, waterfront mansions, for his sons. Abbas II of Egypt, also known as ‘Abbās Ḥilmī Pasha, the last Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, built the Khedive Palace on top of a hill, villas in a grove around the palace and Çubuklu Mosque. The Rescue and Underwater Command, which trains frogmen and second -class divers for the underwater defense and underwater offence teams, as well as the Department of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography of the Turkish Navy are situated in Çubuklu.
The city passenger ferry lines company "Şehir Hatları" maintains car ferry connection between İstinye on the European side of Bosphorus and Çubuklu several times a day.
